On writing;
Yes, I did read Steven Kings’s book “on writing” but procrastinated for another five years before I made the first attempt. Three years later I have 90,000 words written and a much deeper understanding of how little I know about the craft.
This has been one of the truly great journeys I have stumbled on during my six decade reign of terror here on earth.
In those years of writing and re-writing I collected numerous books on craft, dialog and grammar. My reference notes contain hundreds of links to web sites and blogs, all of which I read at least once and bookmarked for future reference. This was all good stuff, some better than others, but in the end it came back around to Kings simple rules for writers. Hugh Howey is one of the self publishing icons and his advice to aspiring authors piece is an inspiration for new authors.
A couple years ago I had the good fortune to find Open Book and the the 50+ writers group who provided much-needed critique and motivation to finish the novel. With their help I published my first novel Uncertain Origin in November 2015.
